History
Sandwell Cycle Speedway Club has a long and varied history. This is just a small section which will be updated in the near future.
Sandwell Cycle Speedway Club is the oldest club in the country. It has competed every year since being founded in 1948. It was formerly known as the Birmingham Lions, stationed at Boardsley Green. It then became the Oldbury Lions, eventually moving to our current site, where we have been for more than 30 years and are known as the Sandwell Lions. At present Sandwell is one of the best Cycle Speedway Stadiums in the country, with changing rooms, a refreshments kiosk and floodlights. Over the years Sandwell has produced a lot of individual talent. Most noticebally being Mark Newey. Mark started riding at the age of 14 and recently won two world championships back to back. At the moment we have an up and coming rider called Jack Hibberd. Jack could undoubtedly go on to do what Mark has done in the future.
