Chapter 4 |
4. Michael Chapman's Healing Work Abroad.
One of the aspects of healing that has become apparent to Michael is the need to travel, and despite the obvious problems that this creates, he has been tirelessly engaged in this aspect of healing; this includes not only healing at Machynlleth, but holding clinics in Bruges, Belgium, and Alkmaar, Holland, as well as travelling to other locations.
Successful healings have been as apparent overseas as they have been in Britain. At the small fort town of Assiniboine when Michael travelled to Canada in 1991, Dustin Rolof, a nine-year old boy, received healing. Dustin was a chronic asthmatic, who as his aunt said, 'was in need of constant medication and could not go anywhere without his ventolin inhalers or pump'. Not surprisingly, the problem was clearly affecting the boy's life in that he was unable to play, run about or exert himself. After seeing Michael, his aunt reported that: 'he has not needed to use his ventolin pump; in fact one day he returned from school very excited and told his mother that he was cured. He could now run and play with his friends without getting short of breath'.
Successful treatment through Michael's spirit healing has also occurred in Europe. Anniemie Julien in Belgium records how her mother had suffered from Parkinson's disease for some twenty years. As others in this desperate situation, they had sought after and tried a range of different treatments, but none had resolved the problem.
Her sister, working in a library, came across a book detailing the work of George Chapman and with nothing to lose, Anniemie wrote to the Chapmans asking for much-needed help. Distant healing began and was continued until they were advised that Michael intended to visit Den Haag in Holland and asked whether they would like an appointment. Naturally, they responded in the affirmative and after seeing Michael on several occasions, Anniemie said that her mother felt stronger in her mind and able to concentrate on recovering - obviously a vital factor in recovery. Healing continued and after nine visits to Michael, she was, as Anniemie says, 'completely cured'. Of this she adds 'What he achieved with my mother I consider a miracle'.
Her mother, Marie de Smet, said of her healing that 'I look in my seventies better than when I was fifty'. In addition to her mother receiving treatment from Basil Lang through the healing mediumship of Michael Chapman, Anniemie also asked for help; in her case, cysts 'disappeared after two consultations'.
Another instance of 'striking progress' was that of Bea Machtelinkx who wrote from Brussels saying that in addition to the progress made, no further carcinoma cells had been found in the blood tests conducted after a consultation with Michael. Moreover, 'from the classical medical side, my doctor-ontologist, declares me totally cured'.
Mia Moreaux, a painter from Roksem in Belgium, spoke of how after suffering considerable pain she had healing from Michael. She noted how his demeanour was 'approachable and positive' and 'under his hands I felt the contact with his energy'. After only three sessions, she remarked that she was 'relieved of my pain'.
Writing from Bruges, also in Belgium, Irma Andries referred to how she had been blighted with leukaemia for some ten years and goes on to say: 'After many treatments, radiation and tests I arrived gladly at Michael Chapman. Since two years of treatment from him. I feel excellent...The latest blood tests were perfectly normal'.
In the case of Michael's healing work in Holland, Mrs G. Gihaux writes of how, 'numerous are the good results [that] Michael [has] had with patients in Holland'. She mentions the healing of Mrs Thea Nijssen from Bodegraven as one example of what Michael and his spirit colleagues have achieved in that country. Thea was only twenty-seven years of age when she realized that she had arthritis in her left hip.
In view of the obvious pain and discomfort, her doctor referred her for tests at a hospital. Despite the serious situation, she was informed that while she had hip deterioration, she was nevertheless too young for an artificial hip.
Thea was told about the possibilities of spirit surgery by a friend and through this, she heard about the healing work of Michael. She refers to how her friend suggested that she visit Michael to which she responded: 'I thought "Why not?". The hospital could offer me nothing'.
She therefore made an appointment to see Michael on 2 September 1990, a day that she says she will never forget. She explains how at this time 'I couldn't walk well and had much pain'. Admitting her apprehensiveness about seeing Michael for spirit healing, she relates how she sat down with Michael for contact healing and he reassured her, yelling her that things would improve. She continues: 'As of that day the pain left. I felt reborn'. She also details how, six months later, she attended the hospital for the regular check-up and the 'the orthopedic surgeon was amazed...the deterioration of my hip had stopped. It seems like a miracle'.
Some of the requests received show the more eccentric side of human nature and is all part of the healing work. In one instance, distant healing was conducted on a young man in America who had perforated cysts. Having healed these, sometime later a request was received asking for them to be 'un-healed' as the young man had been called up for the army and he wanted to be deemed unfit for service. Obviously, this request was rejected.
Michael's ability to heal is demonstrated by him working on the invitation of medical staff in various countries such as Denmark, Holland, Canada and America. Salient is the fact that like the Dr Lang/George Chapman partnership, members of the medical profession now send their own patients to Michael.
The achievements accomplished through Michael's mediumship is evident by virtue of the wide area in which he has travelled and the successes made. Jean Jacques Julien, in Buffalo, New York, reported that with a number of serious ailments, it appeared that his career would be ended. After seeing Michael on just the one occasion he became aware that the problems that had troubled him so much over the years were no longer present.
The range of maladies healed by Michael is truly remarkable. His patients have included those suffering from nervous anxiety, breathing difficulties to the worst cases of cancer, and yet there has been complete success in respect of all the different types. Naturally, the most serious and life-threatening illnesses are those which provoke the most wonder.
One example of this is Lieve Bonne's treatment by Michael. Her record was: 'many years ago in an operation I had a cyst removed, the size of a fist; this was encapsulated round the ovary. Since then I had trouble with my womb and numerous other difficulties...According to the doctor I had polyps on the womb. I refused to be operated upon again and made an appointment with Michael. Soon after one treatment I had less pain...Gradually all complaints disappeared...physically I felt so much better...According to my doctor my womb is back in order and I do not need an operation any more'. A case not far removed from this prevailed with the daughter of Fabiola Vanderckhove of Heist. She suffered a large swelling on the ovary, and after healing from Michael, this was substantially reduced after only two months.
Michael has encountered a number of cases when people after being unable to obtain relief from orthodox medicine have then tried alternative forms and still found no relief. The nine-year old son of Lieve Bonne from Bruges had breathing difficulties that she was warned would later affect his hearing ability: after she had had no success with either orthodox medicine or alternative treatments, she contacted Michael on her son's behalf. Only one treatment later, Lieve became aware that her son was breathing normally and a month later the doctor confirmed that all was well and a planned operation would no longer be necessary. Three years after the treatment by Michael, Lieve's son is well and happy.
Ingrid de Smet of Bruges detailed her visit to Michael after having liver disorders and varicose veins that frequently swelled up causing her considerable discomfort and anxiety. She was prescribed a special diet and pain-killers to deal with the debilitating situation. In desperation, realizing that no improvement appeared to be on her horizon, she arranged an appointment to see Michael. She described this as follows:'At the time of the appointment I was nervous and also curious. I had no idea of what was going to happen...I was welcomed by a friendly man who introduced himself as Michael Chapman...By his friendliness and inner peace which he radiated I felt almost immediately calmer...Sitting on a stool in front of him, I gave him my letter which he read with great care. Thereupon he started calmly to ask me questions...He made no comment, and made no diagnosis, and after washing his hands, he stood behind me and put his hands on my shoulders...the feeling of his hands was by now remarkably warm. When he said the treatment had finished he asked me if I wanted distant healing and if so, asked me to keep him informed. I did as he asked...My liver problems have now practically gone and [I] no longer have to adhere to a regimented diet'.
Ingrid also details how members of her family have sought and received spirit healing from Michael. Her son referred to 'the strong radiance that Michael has as soon as he comes into the treatment room'. When her father injured his foot and required a small plate to be inserted, Michael was contacted and began absent healing. The progress achieved is adequately summed up by Ingrid who adds 'the doctor admitted to being a little surprised that his foot had perfectly healed'.
Under the photograph of Michael and his father, one publication during 1986 referred to how 'their healing cures a so-called incurable illness'. This related to the case of R. van der Veen of Marum in Holland who had developed a severe tropical disease while as a mariner, he had visited the African coast. He became seriously ill and after seeing a number of physicians, was referred to a specialist in abdominal disorders. He diagnosed amoebic dysentery and on being given suitable treatment through medication, the illness was kept in check.
After eighteen months, the illness took hold once again and Mr van der Veen was admitted into hospital for an operation, during which, amoeba cells were found. Following this, he had numerous tests and scans and found his condition worsening despite the dosage of twenty different forms of medication being altered.
Due to the deterioration, he was admitted for a lengthy period into a hospital that specialized in the treatment of tropical diseases. After receiving treatment that had been successful with soldiers who had fought in the Vietnam conflict and developed the same illness, while this resolved the problem of toxicity, Mr van der Veen felt no better, suffering regular and lengthy periods of vomiting. On trying homeopathic treatment, there was some improvement but the deterioration reappeared and resulted in him being admitted into hospital as an emergency. Further tests were conducted and he was told what was becoming obvious: there was no cure and 'You may live with this illness to become a hundred, but you will never be without medicine to keep it under control'. Only with considerable perseverance and resolution was he able to continue with what would be considered a normal life.
Mr van der Veen became aware of healing by the Chapmans through his daughter having to write a school essay dealing with the subject of alternative healing. During her research, she came across the book Healing Hands, by J. Bernard Hutton that records some of the spectacular healing achieved through Dr Lang and George Chapman.
On reading the book, Mr van der Veen wrote, asking for absent healing.
This was started and he recalls how he felt renewed: now realizing that spirit healing was able to assist, he made an appointment to see Michael when he discovered that he held clinics in Holland. He continued to see Michael on a regular basis and discovered that albeit slowly, his health was improving and he was able to reduce the medication to the point where he was not having to take any of this. As so often happens in such instances, Mr van der Veen found that his outlook changed in respect of how he viewed his life. He noted how things once felt to be important were no longer so, and there appeared to be more sense and meaning to life.
In 1997, some ten years after the article referred to above, Mr van der Veen recalls his consultant's advice that 'you will never be without medicine' and remarks how his healing 'was proof that he was mistaken'.
After his health improved so dramatically, he discontinued healing through Michael as it was clearly unnecessary. He continued to be monitored by the hospital that confirmed the inflammation was no longer present. After some time, Mr van der Veen developed diabetes and it was necessary to control this by insulin injections. It seemed likely that the serious ill health in previous years may have triggered the diabetes.
Michael was again contacted and healing commenced. Later in 1998, the pancreas were producing sufficient insulin to allow Mr van der Veen to stop insulin injections and use tablets instead (that stimulate the pancreas). The consultant was naturally 'very surprised' at this. Moreover, despite the problems experienced, retinopathy that often occurs in insulin-dependent diabetes was found to be absent when Mr van der Veen's eyes were examined.
In addition to the above problems, Mr van der Veen suffered further ones when he underwent a heart attack. Being taken to hospital in an ambulance with flashing lights and siren, he recovered to find himself 'throwing up from pain and found my body connected with a lot of wires and tubes'. After being given oxygen and other treatment to assist, he was examined by a consultant and it was determined that his heart had lost about one-third of its pumping capacity. On asking whether this could be treated, he was given a negative reply.
Mr van der Veen contacted Michael and asked him for healing. In the first month or so, he experienced a feeling that he could only describe as one of sandpaper on his heart valves. Additionally, he felt constantly fatigued. He took the opportunity to travel to Machynlleth when he discovered that others were making the journey and once there he received contact healing. Following this, the 'sandpaper' feeling diminished and his demeanour was improved. Mr van der Veen cites a report given to him by the cardiologist in which it is stated that tests showed an improvement and that the cardiologist offered 'my congratulations with this result'.
Mr van der Veen concludes by saying that, 'with the aid and support of the spirit doctors, father and son, working through father and son [the Chapmans], one constantly finds oneself in good company. Sometimes I try to imagine how much worse my condition would have been at this moment without their wonderful spirit healing'.
One of the more remarkable features of the treatment was a revealing of the background to spirit healing. On one occasion when having treatment from Dr Lang through the entranced George Chapman, Mr van der Veen overheard something of what Dr Lang was saying to his spirit colleagues and the name 'Oliver' was mentioned. On a later occasion, he asked Dr Lang whether the 'Oliver' was Sir Oliver Lodge. To those familiar with the history of modern Spiritualism and psychical research, Sir Oliver Lodge is known as the man who laboured so valiantly and tirelessly in his life to obtain evidence of survival. Dr Lang confirmed that it was indeed Sir Oliver Lodge with whom he was speaking on the earlier occasion.
Another instance of this type of paranormal experience occurred with Rose of Motherwell. She suffered from what she could only describe as 'excruciating pain' in her womb. Cysts developed and she was 'sent back and forth' between different hospitals. The pain that ensued resulted in her having to give up the education she was undertaking at College. Furthermore, she recalls with sadness, that it had a negative effect in respect of bring up her son. In her words, 'it was a nightmare'.
Becoming aware that things were not improving, Rose made an appointment with Michael after which she says, 'I walked out of the healing that day without the lump that had caused me so much pain for years. I started to get my life back'. After Michael had conducted healing on her, she noticed red marks that she concluded were marks made during the spirit surgery. These disappered a short time later.
Sadly, Rose's new-found quality of life was to be short-lived as she was afflicted with a lump in her breast and although this was drained at the hospital, another one appeared and she therefore obtained sought healing from Michael. After this she writes, 'I presently have no lumps and haven't had for a year or more now'.
Another illustration of how there can be glimpses of the interaction between the two worlds is found in the remark made by Rose's son. Rose explains that he received marvellous healing for an impairment in his left leg that caused him to drag it when walking and how: 'I lay in my lounge at 10pm for the healing link-up and my son came into the room and said, "Mum, could you ask the people in white coats to leave my room as I cannot get to sleep".
