WINDMILLS of ENGLAND

Be it windmills, smock mills , post mills or idol tower mills , or just old powder mills I have an interest in them all whether it is in Cambridgeshire , Essex , Suffolk , Norfolk or any other county or country. In the USA they may be called either corn mills or powder mills.
I have visited over 280 windmills in England and I am searching for info on Cambridgeshire windmills that I have videoed and photographed, I have also done this for windmills in Essex , Suffolk and Norfolk also in W. Sussex through to Cornwall visiting any post mills or tower mills that I could find.
I also searching for millers in the 1880's in Cambridgeshire or possibly Essex , Suffolk or Norfolk , When is a windmill not a windmill ? Answer when its a windpump as I found out in Norfolk .
If you know of the millers mentioned in my help page or know where I could locate any of the windmill books there you can e-mail me direct from this or any other page by clicking the envolope graphic.
In my travels I found out how corn mills worked, did I say corn mills ? well other produce was also ground including bark, snuff and cement, produce was turned into powder, perhaps that is why in the USA they are also known as powder mills . I also found out the millers work with some live demenstrations in working wind mills, how the smock mills are realy tower mills exept that tower mills are made of brick or stone and a smock mill mainly of timber. There are a few photo's that you can view of post mills , smock mills and tower mills or if you like powder mills of England. These will be updated from time to time. Happy searching, Brian
